Went to Thompson to fish Friday caught 1 walleye on tip up fish. The ice was 13″ and there we pickup on the ice

Ok so was watching this video about HPR ammo and how this guy says they use XTP i like the XTP by Hornaday they make good stuff all of my hunting round use a SST…  so first of if am buying bet my life ammo it coming for a ammo maker that has been around for more than 5 min i know the how made in the usa is nice but so is hornaday, corbon and many other … that aside he said they are hyper-clean ..? can you say buzz word … most of the clean comes for the bullet not the powder shooting a full metal jack where there is no lead expose to powder is what make it clean hpr has nothing to do with that part… next for the .powder consistency is .1 of grain ok most digital scales have the same consistencies +-.1 make it hard to believe that a machine can get it that right   that aside  so the last nail is there speed and power just looking that the 9mm 124 he says 1017 fps / 285 ft/lb as compaired to hornaday tap same weight look at 1110 fps/339 ft/lb   …. ok now for the last part price tap 29.01  and hpr 26.09 ohh i for got to say tap is per 25 and hpr is per 50 if hornaday the maker of the bullet charges that much for there own ammo kinda look like this is hpr is a bargin baesment ammo and something would not put in my gun to bet my life.. now all this fine insite has came from just this one guy video i would say stay with hornday tap

Just a quick update on the trip and only one word can describe it snow

Today is new gear day. Stopped in at Dunhams in Brookings, SD were I picked up Coghlan gear.

First up is the Flint striker I saw are review of this online the other day and they said it was OK so I though i would give it a try. First impressions of the striker very cheap I just bought a Light My Fire brand on a few week back and it was $13, this one is $5 so for a budget mined treker this is good. Second it is about 1 inch bigger than the other one and it is thicker too Coghlan say about 4000 strikes the Light My Fire is only 3000 strike. Now on to the testing  first off the striker does not work as good as the light my fire one and the handle of the flint moves quite a bit i think if they did the striker it well be OK as for the hole thing I don’t think you can beat the price.

Next up is waterproof matches and match container the the matches come like 6 boxes in a package. First of the match are not strike any were so I had to put one of the strikers in the container I have not had any time to do any real testing of this so will see on the first trip out.

So the Inhumane would be in the actions no the ammo shooting a deer that just bleeds and does not die from the trauma cause by the bullet would would be yes inhumane… “ONE SHOT ONE KILL” should allways be your goal when hunting. Now when talking about human life and stopping an enemy on the battle field to stop most you just need to wound them anything more would be a waste of life. Last when it come to personal defense in your home and on your body I would not be to concerned for inhumane actions towards other threats. Most threats don’t care how humane it is to you.

This last weekend i was out ice fishing on both Saturday and Sunday i was fishing on lake that were less than 20 miles from Sioux Falls. I have to say this much the ice was very thick almost 3 feet still but it is getting close to being bad. Now on to the topic at hand both place i fish had had what i like to call a ice fishing village out on the ice what i found was trash left all over the place

This was not even the worst of it. Someone after getting there permy of the ice they left a green plastic and a bathroom sink

Now i know that there will be dumb ass in the world but i know their was other guys that had been there why can some of you so called sportsman pick it up after i  got off the ice i had a ton of garbage. Lets all try to leave these place better than you found it.

Last year had a good hunt got my fist big buck nice 5 x 5. Although it did not score over 110 but still the biggest buck to date

Well it has been over a week and still no rabbits I think this is mainly do to the great hunter HONDA she keep the yard pretty clear of them moved the trap to the side yard but i don’t like it cause there is a much greater chance of getting a cat which would be bad

For the last few weeks i have been listening to Jack Spirko’s  The Survival Podcast. Jack has a great Podcast, YouTube channel and Forum where there is great information for the guy who would like to get ready for harder times ahead. Jack does a podcast a day during the week having over 350 shows filled with good info. Check it out.

After reading February’s Field and Stream I was compelled to make some snares to add to my Survival Kit. After finding some wire I now have 3 made up but I have never use snare to get any game I wanted to make sure they work so i set out to trap me some rabbits in the back yard but with Honda always running around rabbit are kinda hard to find in my yard so far have had the trap out for 2 day and nothing. Today i move to trap to the side yard where the dog does not get to.
